Oklahoma Youth Expo Western Art Show
Dear Oklahoma Students, Parents and Teachers:
For the sixth year, the Oklahoma Youth Expo in conjunction with the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is proud to offer the Junior Western Art Show to Oklahoma young people. The art show is held in conjunction with the Oklahoma Youth Expo, “The World’s Largest Junior Livestock Show” to be held March 10-20, 2008 . Below you will find a full listing of rules. Please read them carefully, some changes have been implemented. We look forward to the incredible artistic talents of Oklahoma Young People. Good Luck andBest Wishes!
Divisions and Categories
The art show is open to Oklahoma students ages 9 to 18. Students may enter in one of three categories, Animals, People or Western Landscape, with competition being divided into the following divisions:
Division I – Fourth-Sixth grade
Division II – Seventh-Ninth grade
Division III – Tenth-Twelfth grade
Awards
- Courtesy of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum :
- Best of Show Art exhibitor will receive two days free admission to the seminars and art demonstrations during the Prix De West Invitational Art Show and Sale to be held JUNE 13-14, 2008 at the Museum.
- Admission for the student, parents and instructor to the Prix De West Awards Banquet.
- The Best of Show, Reserve Best of Show and Honorable Mention will be awarded cash awards, as chosen by the judges.
- Certificates and ribbons will be awarded to first through fifth place exhibits in each division.
- Artwork placing first and second in their respective category and division will be exhibited at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, March 2 – 25, 2008.
- Certificates will also be awarded to all exhibitors of the 2008 Oklahoma Youth Expo Western Art Exposition.
Entry Deadline
All artwork must be received at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum between February 11 - 22, 2008.
Return of art to students/school:
- Artwork must be picked up at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum – ONLY AT THE DELIVERY ENTRANCE
- Entries not selected as 1 st or 2 nd places are to be picked up March 3 through April 4, 2008
- Entries selected to hang in the Museum may be picked up March 26 through April 4, 2008 .
- Artwork not picked up within the given time frame will be discarded unless special arrangements are made with Judy Dearing or Karen Whitecotton at the phone numbers listed below. Artwork will not be mailed to return to exhibitors.
- ARRANGEMENTS FOR PICK UP MUST BE MADE IN ADVACE OF ARRIVAL. CALL BEFORE ARRIVING TO MAKE ARRANGEMNTS FOR PICK UP AT (405) 478-2250, Ext. 258 for Karen Whitecotton or (405) 936-9793 for Judy Dearing .
Further Requirements
- The artwork must be an original - No Photographs, “Paint-by-Numbers” or Collages will be accepted.
- All entries must depict a western theme. Entries deemed off theme will be disqualified.
- All entries must be titled using the official entry form.
- Artwork must be matted and framed in a black or brown frame with a wire in back in order to be displayed. Entries must have a plexi-glass or glass covering – NO PLASTIC WRAP (If entry is oil, no glass is required)
- Exhibits must not exceed 18” x 24” in size.
- All entries must be labeled with the entry form. The entry form will serve as the label. Entry forms must be attached securely on the back of each art piece. Entry forms must be COMPLETED FULLY – ALL BLANKS MUST BE FILLED IN.
